The Dr. Neo
Hair Transplantation Experience

Initial Consultation

The main goal of the initial consultation is to determine if you are a good candidate for a Dr. Neo hair restoration procedure. The good news is NeoGraft has a proven track-record of delivering excellent hair transplantation results for both men and women of all ethnicities.

Although most people can get the treatment, there are some factors that come into play to determine if you’re an ideal candidate. These factors include:

  • The number of grafts necessary to produce the desired results
  • The density and quality of the donor hair, hair texture, and
  • The potential for future hair loss.

Your Dr. Neo hair restoration specialist will work with you to help determine if you are a suitable candidate for the NeoGraft procedure.  Our specialist will also work with you to establish realistic expectations, which in turn will help ensure you have a positive hair restoration experience.

Based on the number of grafts (aka follicular units) you need, the complexity of your transplantation procedure, and the level of expertise of your Dr. Neo physician you will be provided with a quote for the procedure.

If you decided to move forward, your NeoGraft procedure will be scheduled with the payment of a deposit.

After the initial consult you will:

  • Receive an in-depth analysis of your individual hair restoration needs
  • Know if you are good candidate for the procedure
  • Set realistic expectations which will contribute to a positive hair restoration experience
  • Know how many grafts you will need to target your hair restoration goals
  • Know the cost of the procedure
  • Be given the opportunity to book your procedure day with the payment of a deposit

Procedure Day Prep

First, it is important to note we call it “Procedure Day” because the duration of a Dr. Neo transplantation session ranges from 4 to 10 hours and depends on the number of grafts (follicular units) we harvest and implant that particular day.

So, plan your schedule accordingly.

Furthermore, the number of sessions (Procedure Days) a patient needs varies with the individual circumstances and hair restoration goals.

Typically, a single Dr. Neo session is enough to attain a worthwhile hairline improvement.

At the onset of the procedure, the donor area will need to be shaved down with a zero guard to prepare for graft/follicular unit harvesting.  Accordingly, your Dr. Neo specialist may advise you to cut your hair in preparation for shaving of the donor site at the start of your procedure. For patients with longer hair, the donor area can be shaved in a way that it can be disguised by keeping the hair around it long enough to hide the shaved areas.

Note: You do NOT need a total buzz cut before the procedure. If your hair is long enough, the transplantation procedure can be done by just shaving donor site, which can then be covered by the rest of your hair after the procedure.

Key points to prep for Procedure Day:

  • A transplantation session takes 4-10 hours to complete - so plan accordingly
  • Actual duration of session varies with number of grafts we harvest and implant that day
  • The number of sessions / procedure days you will need varies with your individual circumstances and hair restoration goals
  • The donor area will need to be shaved down with a zero guard
  • To facilitate the shave down of donor area, you may be advised to cut your hair
  • You do NOT need a total buzz cut before the procedure

Procedure Day

The Team
A Dr. Neo physician will be involved in making all of the necessary and important decisions, and will supervise every step of your NeoGraft experience. Certified Dr. Neo technicians will assist the physician performing the procedure.

Donor Site Shave Down
As mentioned before, to prepare for the procedure, the donor site will be shaved down with a zero guard.

Local Anesthesia
At the onset of the procedure, your physician will numb the area with local anesthesia, so you will likely feel minimal discomfort while follicular unit grafts are being harvested and implanted. Some physicians also offer the option of mild sedation for the duration of the procedure.

Extraction/Harvesting
During the procedure, we utilize a variation of the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique that allows us to harvest individual grafts with an automated handheld device. The harvested follicles are known as terminal hair and are naturally resistant to hair loss.

Implantation/Transplantation
The harvested grafts are implanted at the site of hair loss, where, over time, they will regrow as healthy, fully functioning hair. Ultimately, Dr. Neo’s approach to hair transplantation does NOT leave a linear scar, is more comfortable, and requires much less recovery time.

After the Procedure
Immediately after your NeoGraft procedure, your Dr. Neo team will ensure that the new grafts are secure and in their proper position. They will thoroughly rinse the treated areas and a light protective dressing may be applied. You will be given detailed instructions about how to care for the grafts when you go home, including any recommended shampoos, topical antiseptics, or hair care products. Because there is NO incision, there is NO need to get any sutures removed.

Once the numbing wears off and as the grafts heal, you may experience some tenderness around the donor site. This is a normal part of the healing process and should subside in a few days. Always be sure to consult with your Dr. Neo team about post-procedure care and pain management.

How it worksHow it works

Key points about the Procedure:

  • A Dr. Neo physician will supervise every step of your procedure day
  • Certified Dr. Neo technicians will assist the physician performing the procedure
  • The donor site will be shaved down to prep for the procedure
  • At the onset of the procedure, your physician will numb the area with local anesthesia
  • We use the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique to harvest grafts that are naturally resistant to hair loss
  • Our FUE approach does NOT leave a linear scar, is more comfortable, and requires much less recovery time
  • Once the numbing wears off and as the grafts heal, you may experience some tenderness around the donor site. This is a normal part of the healing process and should subside in a few days

Recovery and Regrowth

There's typically very little pain or discomfort after the NeoGraft procedure. You may experience some tenderness around the donor site, but this is a normal part of the healing process and should subside in a few days. You may also experience a slight amount of drainage for the first day after your procedure, but this is minimal.

You must refrain from strenuous activity for two weeks, to ensure you do not cause any harm to the newly implanted grafts.

You can expect the newly implanted grafts to be slightly raised in the first week after the procedure. Around three to four days later, they will start to scab over and then possibly shed. Shedding is good and a natural part of the healing process.

The Dr. Neo team will instruct you on how to properly care for your new grafts, but most patients are able to return to their usual routine within two weeks after completing the procedure.

Newly implanted hair follicles work with the natural hair growth cycle and results continue to improve each week, with full realization at 9-12 months post-procedure.
